Statement
of Practice
For over
the past twenty years it has been my privilege to serve the residents
of Fairfield County, delivering the highest level of dermatologic care.
The
skin is the largest organ of the body and it protects everything under
it. I studied it exclusively during my three year residency and thought
I knew everything there was to know. Over the years, I have strived
to stay on top of the tremendous advances medicine has made in my field.
I attend many conferences every year and read voraciously to make certain
I am on top of the latest techniques and equipment.
Today,
more than ever, medical professionals recognize the importance of treating
the outside problems along with the inside problems. More often than
not they are related.
As a patient,
I can assure you that I work only with state of the art equipment. It
is important for you to know that the equipment is always here, not
rented for the day. I perform ALL laser procedures myself. The products
I use (such as Collagen and Botox) are fresh. You can even watch me
open the containers. I maintain these standards because I want to achieve
the best possible results and you deserve them.
When considering
any medical procedure it is also very important for the patient to make
certain that the physician performing it is properly trained and credentialed.
Make certain that your physician is Board Certified. This means he/she
has passed an examination given by his/her peers to determine the level
of knowledge and expertise in that specialty. According to Connecticut
law, anyone with an MD degree and a medical license issued by the State
can perform surgery. In other words, a Psychiatrist could legally remove
your appendix, but is he qualified?
There
are some dermatologic procedures that I do not perform. I either have
not trained to do them, do not want to do them, or feel that the results
are unpredictable.
We try
to schedule your appointment so that there is little waiting time, yet
plenty of time to allow me to treat you and listen to your concerns.
We have also tried to make our waiting room a pleasant place to relax
until you are seen. By putting people at ease, communication between
doctor and patient usually flows more freely.
Practice
Philosophy
Life
is a short and precious gift. It should be enjoyed to the fullest, with
the least possible amount of anxiety and disappointment. In my experience,
after twenty years in the practice of Dermatology, there are far too
many people who are troubled and uncomfortable with their outward appearance.
The end result is that many aspects of life are negatively affected
by these feelings, including interactions with other people, self esteem,
work performance, and even the ability to be at peace with one's self
at the end of the day.
Everyone
has the right to look as good as one feels, or wants to feel. With the
advances in technology available today, this is an easy goal to achieve.
If there is a wrinkle, a scar, a frown line, a birthmark, or excessive
hair that is tarnishing your self image, you need not suffer with it
any longer. For others, maintaining healthy, rejuvenated skin is the
goal, regardless of age. State of the art techniques are available for
this today, with no down time for healing and recuperation. Unfortunately,
there are often economic restraints and most insurance companies will
not cover these procedures.
Caring
for the skin is much like caring for a garden and its individual plants.
If there is a plant in a perennial border that mars its overall beauty,
it can and should be removed. On the other hand, an individual plant,
like the skin, may not be enhancing the overall beauty of the garden
because it is in poor health and has not been nurtured properly. Like
the skin, a shade-loving plant will not flourish if left in direct sunlight.
Nor will it develop into a healthy, beautiful specimen without daily
attention to its need for water, nutrients, and pruning of withering
or aging flowers and foliage.
In my
view, whatever the problem may be, there is an answer available today.
It is never too soon or too late to embark on a regime that will keep
your skin healthy and rejuvenated. It is never too vain to correct an
external problem that has been inhibiting the inner personality that
is you. |
