Ultrafine™ Erbium

ultra laser The skin is the largest organ in our bodies. It protects us from infection and shields us from harmful substances.

However, as we age, the effects of the sun, wind, time and hormones begin to show.

At first, fine lines appear around our eyes and lips. Then, as the collagen beneath our skin wears out, deeper wrinkles begin to appear. Surface irregularities such as pigment discolorations and acne scarring may also occur.

In the past, treatments of choice for these conditions were dermabrasion or chemical peels. In dermabrasion, layers of skin are actually sanded away and in chemical peels, layers of skin are burned away with an acid solution.

The UltraFine™ Erbium Laser

Erbium Laser Skin ResurfacingThe UltraFine™ Erbium Laser is the latest advance for the treatment of aging and sun-damaged skin. The UltraFine™ Erbium Laser provides a safer, more accurate and less painful method of restoring softer, smoother, more youthful-appearing skin. In most cases patients can have their procedure performed in the doctor's office and be home that same day.

UltraFine™ Erbium laser skin resurfacing is a procedure specifically designed to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face. The UltraFine™ Erbium Laser produces less heating or burning of surrounding tissues than other lasers used for resurfacing. This allows us to gently and comfortably vaporize the damaged skin cells layer by layer. Most cases require only a local or topical aesthetic. Recent studies have shown that the UltraFine™ Erbium Laser stimulates the production of collagen creating a tightening and smoothing of the skin.

What can the Ultrafine™ Erbium Laser do for me?

The Ultrafine™ Erbium Laser has been designed to remove or noticeably decrease wrinkles, scars and to improve overall color and skin texture of the face, neck and hands. Although treatment results will vary depending on various considerations, with few exceptions, you can expect an improvement in the texture and quality of your skin.

Is the Ultrafine™ Erbium Laser like other lasers I’ve heard about for skin resurfacing?

You may have heard about CO2 lasers for skin resurfacing. Although the results may be very good, patients experience a great amount of pain requiring full anesthesia for treatment and usually take a very long time to heal. The Ultrafine™ Erbium laser offers the benefits of less pain during treatment and recovery along with significantly faster healing time than other resurfacing lasers.

Does it hurt?

The level of discomfort is different for every person and also varies by the location and surface area to be treated. Many patients do not request any pain medication during treatment, and relate the discomfort as comparable to sunburn. Other patients will appreciate a topical or local anesthesia. Laser resurfacing may cause the skin to become raw, red or pink with mild to moderate discomfort for several days following the procedure.

How long will the healing process take?

Of course, everyone will heal at various rates depending on the depth of treatment, the particular areas treated and your own healing rate. Noticeable results are typically seen in a few days, with complete healing in only a few weeks. Light resurfacing around the eyes and lips in general only takes a few days. Most patients can be treated before the weekend and be almost healed by the following Monday. A deep, full facial resurfacing may take up to 2-3 weeks before you feel aesthetically comfortable to return to your normal public activities. Areas further away from your face, such as the hands, may take up to a month for the full treatment benefits to become apparent.

Are there any complications with laser resurfacing?

Although the Ultrafine™ Erbium laser has substantially reduced many of the risks associated with laser procedures, infections, temporary or permanent pigmentary changes, even scarring or other unsatisfactory results can occur. As with any medical procedure, be certain to discuss any questions or concerns you may have with your physician.
